Matthew Clarke, aka Maff, used the BetterPoints app each time he was out on his bike to earn points for the Our Place Mentoring Scheme based at Our Place Community Hub in Farthing Lane.

Maff earned thousands of points through the app by doing what he would have been doing anyway – cycling to and from work. But he didn’t stop there and he explained how earning the points encouraged him to ride that much more; taking the ‘scenic route’ when possible to add a few extra miles to his journey.

BetterPoints is a reward programme that allows users to log activities in order to earn points which can then be redeemed for high street rewards or, as in Maff’s case, donated to a local charitable organisation.

Kelly Round, Director and Hub Operations Manager at Our Place, was delighted to discover that the points Maff had earned and donated to the organisation had been converted into a cheque.

Kelly commented:

”It’s amazing how Our Place are able to generate much needed funding through daily activities such as walking and cycling. Maff has really taken on the challenge of cycling more to help us raise funds and as a result we have a fantastic £155 donation from BetterPoints.”

Michael Grimes of BetterPoints Ltd said:

“Well done Maff! I love hearing about people like Maff because this is exactly what BetterPoints is about: motivating people to do a little more than they would normally and supporting the lcoal community. And it’s a great way for charities and organisations like Our Place to get a little more cash, which can be hard to come by. And all you need is your smartphone!”
