SCL Podcast ep14: The Lamba sisters and Operation Ollie
Welcome to the Sutton Coldfield Local Community Podcast episode 14: In conversation with Annabell and Semone Lamba.
For this episode of the podcast I had the pleasure of chatting with Annabell and Semone Lamba, the bubbly Sutton Coldfield sisters behind the recent 24 hour tennis match held in aid of Ollie Dodds.
Although the sisters didn’t previously know Ollie or his family they gave 5 weeks of their time to organise the fundraising event when they heard from their tennis coach about the three year old’s need for an operation.
Little Ollie suffers from a type of cerebral palsy known as ‘spastic quadriplegic palsy’ and isn’t even able to sit up without falling over and needs an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).
The operation, which is available at the St Louis Children’s Hospital in the United States, will provide a chance for Ollie to achieve his dream of walking and his supporters are looking to raise a total of £50,000.
The match took place at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club over the weekend of 2nd/3rd August and received a great deal of support from both local residents and businesses.
Ninety-six people took part in the event helping to raise over £1600 as well as increasing awareness of ‘Operation Ollie’.
The Verdo Lounge in Wylde Green even created a special menu in the run up to the match raising an additional £345.
Catherine Thomas Cakes donated a massive batch of cup cakes while the new Under Pressure Espresso coffee shop helped keep people going with supplies of coffee. A well earned pancake breakfast was provided Pippa of the Deli in Boldmere.
