Local Sainsbury’s Branch Brings in a Trolley-Load of Money for Friends of Good Hope Hospital
Friends of Good Hope Hospital were delighted to have collected an incredible £6,000 from the Sainsbury’s Local on Walsall Street in Sutton Coldfield, the results of a successful year’s charity work with the local supermarket.
Store manager Matt Gregory was inspired by his late mother, Christina Gregory to form a partnership with Good Hope Hospital. Christina was treated at Good Hope and sadly passed away in February 2015. Matt said: “My mother always spoke so highly about the care she received and I wanted to give something back to the hospital. I thought it would be great if my branch of Sainsbury’s could work with the Friends to raise money for the hospital.”
Friends of Good Hope Hospital have, since November 2015, worked to provide extras for the patients at Good Hope Hospital to make their stay in hospital a little easier.
Sainsbury’s Walsall Road is very close to Good Hope and Matt was aware that most of the people who shop there have either received treatment at the hospital themselves or know someone who has. Matt said: “The hospital is important for people in our area, that’s why my colleagues and customers have been so passionate about supporting them.”
Just a few ways in which Sainsbury’s have shown their support is to run, monthly collections with the ‘Friends’, regular raffles, and even an ‘‘EGG Stravaganza’ , providing all the prizes for a special ‘Guess the Eggs’ game running over the whole weekend. The Easter event raised a staggering £670 alone!
Merryl Graham, Secretary of Friends of Good Hope said: “We are so grateful to the staff and customers of Sainsbury’s for choosing to support us in 2016/17. We would like to thank all the customers throughout the year who gave so generously, especially the lady who bought us all ice lollies on a particularly hot collection day.
We all volunteer for FOGH because we are deeply committed to going above and beyond for the patients and staff of Good Hope Hospital but we couldn’t do that without the help of local people such as Matt and his team at Sainsbury’s.”
