Sainsbury’s Mere Green joins inaugural ‘The Great Get Together’ celebration

Sainsbury’s Mere Green is helping customers celebrate being part of their community by hosting a drop-in event as part of The Great Get Together on Saturday 17 June.

The Great Get Together

Created to encourage communities to get to know each other and to embrace their similarities as well as their differences, the event is designed for shoppers to slow down and take a break from their busy lives to get to know their neighbours.

The event at Sainsbury’s Mere Green takes place from 10am-4pm where shoppers can pop for drinks and nibbles.

Customers will have the opportunity to take a ‘selfie’ with friends, family or neighbours which they can share on social media using #GreatGetTogether. There will also be a message board in the store where shoppers can share stories of their favourite thing about their community.

The Great Get Together is a weekend of community celebration taking place across the UK from 16 – 18 June. It was set up by the Jo Cox Foundation to mark the first anniversary of the MP’s murder and is inspired by her maiden speech to parliament where she discussed themes of togetherness.

Adam Cadwallader,Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Mere Green said:

“We’re really proud to play our part in this nationwide event by bringing people together from the Sutton Coldfield area and encouraging our customers to join the community spirit. As a values-led business, being part of the local community is extremely important to us and we look forward to bringing local people together as part of this event.”

Iona Lawrence, Director of the Jo Cox Foundation, added:

“I’m delighted that Sainsbury’s is taking part in The Great Get Together and hosting some of the 110,000 events taking part across the UK. The important thing is that it will be a lot of fun and will hopefully play its part in reminding us all of the values that make this country such a great place to live.”

Thousands of people will come together across the country from local communities, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses to celebrate by holding street parties, sporting events, picnics and much more.
