Club News: Erdington Court Bowls Open Day
Erdington Court Bowls Club held its annual open day to publicise its winter indoor arena and evening leagues – attracting over 150 visitors – including Birmingham’s Lord Mayor Councillor Anne Underwood, from Sutton Coldfield.
The Lord Mayor was told that 40-50% of Erdington Court’s members are ladies and that the majority of members come from Sutton Coldfield.
Erdington Councillors Robert Alden, Bob Beauchamp and Gareth Moore also attended. Councillor Beauchamp won the £10 meat voucher donated by Wicketts Butchers of Gravelly Lane!
The indoor arena is the only one of its kind on the north side of the City and south of Tamworth and many members of other outdoor clubs join for the Winter.
Spokesman Ray Woods said,
“We distributed over 15,000 door to door leaflets for the event as well as publicity from local media such as Sutton Coldfield Local and support from Mike Bushell at the Sutton Expo – and there was a great response.
“Over 10 members were recruited on the day and a similar number have expressed an interest in joining our free indoor coaching courses.Every indoor rink and some of our all-weather outdoor rinks were occupied by potential new members.
“Johnsons Skoda in Erdington, one of our sponsors had a display of their cars – and Boston Bowls from Lincolnshire were on hand to advise on bowls woods, clothing and equipment. They are at Birmingham Indoor Bowls Club on Tuesday 24th October between 10am and 3pm for anyone who missed them.We also welcomed Pam Collins of Utility Warehouse in Sutton Coldfield, David Heilbronn of Will Writing Services and Mark Jones and Diane Parkes from
John Taylor Hospice.
