Club News: Erdington Court Launch Outdoor Season

A warm sunny afternoon provided the backdrop for the launch of a local Bowls Club’s outdoor season.

president's day 2017

With Erdington Court’s 6 all-weather rinks all in action, over 30 players were in good spirits to celebrate the beginning of their new President’s term of office.

The new President is David Mitchell from Four Oaks – where he has lived for over 50 years with his wife Joy. He has been a member of the Erdington Court Club for over 30 years. Before that, he was a member of the Club’s Cricket Team. David was a teacher at Fairfax School for 30 years, being Deputy Head for the last 19.

The President’s Team beat the team of Outdoor Captain Peter Yates by an impressive 102 to 79.

Lorna Bournes from Erdington won the fun ‘spider’ competition that launched the day- winning a bottle of whisky.

Club spokesman Ray Woods said,

“We couldn’t have had a better start to the season. We had a full turn-out and weather was fantastic. We are lucky at this Club that if the weather does turn nasty, we can continue to play indoors. Fortunately, this wasn’t necessary.”

“It was also good to see some of our new members taking part – one of whom had only just completed his free coaching sessions!”
